But she wrote "base ball". I'm no baseball historian but there are similarities
between various early versions of "rounders", "base ball", "town ball" etc in England and the American colonies.
Do you know when and where the first known written reference to "baseball" was?

Austen was very likely referring to Rounders, which has existed since the 1500s
