History lesson for the younguns.

1979. BYU is 11-0 and ranked in the Top 10 heading into the WAC Championship game against SDSU at the Murph. That game was going to be ABC REGIONAL coverage because it was late November and the ABC NATIONAL game was happening up the road about 90 miles north. USC versus UCLA.

The suits at ABC Sports balanced everything...and in a move which still surprises me to this day...decided to relegate one of CFBs great traditional rivalries with all it's usual cross-town storylines to the regional broadcast so the entire nation could see this conference championship game featuring the undefeated Top 10 Cougars and their aerial assault led by 1st team All American QB Marc Wilson.

((side note: years ago I donated my gnarly old VHS copy of this game...with none other than Al Michaels and Frank Broyles on the call...to BYUtv. They added it to the archive..and if you can stand to watch the grainy...low-def pictures it is a GREAT watch going down memory lane with Wilson...Homer Jones...Eric Lane...Danny Plater...Bill Davis...Lloyd Jones...Clay Brown and Gary Kama...Glen Redd and the BYU defense))

Yeah...this was 41 years ago...and tons of things have changed...but to answer the question from the linked post...YES. If Disney/ABC/ESPN decides that this is indeed the most compelling/intriguing CFB matchup of the weekend they could bounce another game somewhere else and put BYU/CC centerstage for the whole nation to watch.

I will actually be really...REALLY surprised if it stays put on ESPNU with it's vastly more limited audience.
