I sure hope not. I think in 5-10 years studios are going to regret killing off
theaters. The real thing that streaming changed was the ability to watch stuff on demand. As more and more streaming service pop up, consumers are going to push back and start demanding bundling. When bundling occurs, things will be right back to where they were 20 years ago. Satellite and cable have had pay per view movies for forever. Studios certainly didn't send their films straight to pay per view back in the day. Why would they expect pay per view over streaming to be any different? I guess time will tell. I just think most of the disruption is smoke and mirrors and when the dust settles, things will look a while lot like they did before streaming, with the exception of on-demand. Killing off theaters feels like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I do think a big X factor is Youtube and other social media video platforms. If kids really prefer that stuff over corporate studio content, then there's no hope for the studios, theaters or no theaters.
