Punting just 2.5 (rounded) x a game when averaging 11.5 drives means you are not being stopped early in drives very often. It's the other side of that great stat that matters even more. BYU only turned the ball over I think .75 x per game. So between punts and errors, BYU was effectively moving the ball on about 9+Drives per game. While not all ended in scores, precious few ended in disaster or surrendering the ball and that is why BYU averaged 43.5 PPG.
