F1. Coach Bennett did a great job of limiting looks from the three point line, but rather than BYU foisting up contested 3's, they worked their offensive and got allot of looks from short and medium range. I'm sure that the boys were frustrated, but they stayed patient and it finally paid off over the final 12 minutes.
2. The overall defensive effort. Both last year and this year, and it was on full display last night, there has been a huge change in how the Cougars play defense. Last night they really got after it on the defensive end and shut down the Gaels over the last 10+ minutes of the game.
3. The overall grit of Pope's teams. Both last year and this year, I've seen his teams play with a grit and intensity that wasn't there in the past couple years of the Rose era. The team really has taken on the personality of their coach.
Best of all, he coached BYU to the first victory over the Gaels in Moraga since 2014.
Coach Pope is a good one. I hope we can hang onto him for a long, long time.
