When I was teenager I had a dream of being retired by 40 (or at least, not need to work). Well that came and went. I also remember reading a statistic in my early 20's that went something like this, "If your goal is to be a multi-millionaire and you haven't' made it by 40, you probably never will". Not sure if I believe this one. It seems like you need capital before you can really gain wealth and it's hard to acquire a lot of capital when your young. But if your just measuring dollars in your bank account, then it probably holds true.
Looking at this holistically, from a Net Worth standpoint, one can absolutely be a paper millionaire (asset rich), even though it may not feel any different.
