Just be thankful we have a ball handler & passer as good as Albiero. If we didn't, Shaylee would have to do EVERYTHING outside the paint.
Unfortunately, we don't have another shooter or scorer in the backcourt besides her that would allow us to compete with the top-20 teams in the NCAAs this year. It's really too bad, cuz it's ALL we lack (though having a reliable scorer in the paint would be nice, too). Brenna Chase & Shaylee were great three years ago, & Payslie was much more effective & comfortable as the 3rd option than she's been as the 2nd option the last two seasons. Teagan & Smiler are the same sort of deal. Both are 3rd-option talent, not 2nd-option. (If we could give Teagan Payslie's athleticism (or vice-versa w size/strength), then we'd probably be onto something as the 2nd-option scorer, even with the streaky shooting that defines both their games.)
Frankly — Juddy needs to start recruiting more Black American players for his backcourt. New Zealand (& wherever else we've been turning to) doesn't offer the right sort of talent & style of game — to supplement the traditional weaknesses in the LDS pool.
It's been three games since I've watched the ladies. Between that key talent lack of ours --& the weakness of our opponents-- it's just not amounting to entertaining sport.
