There are many examples of tiered leagues in sports
Your argument wouldn't hold up if you discussed this same thing with a soccer fan in Europe. Many of the lower division teams have very passionate fanbases, and those teams represent their city or region. The same can be said about minor league baseball. It is a very pure form of the sport, and fans support it because that team represents their area, and they do it for the love of the game. For every guy that is going to make it to the majors, there are about 10 others who won't, and they are just trying to earn a paycheck and to stay in the game as long as they can. I have really enjoyed attending minor league games all over the country.
