too many guys standing around on the perimeter watching the ballhandler try to..
...create something. What we needed were guys moving more to take advantage of when the D extended to deny the 3pt shot. How many backdoor layups do you remember our guys getting last year compared to 2019? It rarely happened.

In 2019 it was a regular feature in our offense. If one of our guys rotated up on the perimeter to receive the ball and his defender was a step over the 3pt line trying to get in the passing lane or deny the ball *boom* it was automatic, our guy cut back door and Haws or Toolson knew to look for them and got it to them quick, before the D could react.

Last season it wouldn't have mattered if our guys cut backdoor because our guards had their heads down dribbling trying to find an opening to get into the lane, they couldn't see guys in the open. I remember at one point Lohner started to slip screens and roll to the basket when his defender tried to aggressively hedge but our guards never looked at him. Often times when the help D rotated over to cover him it would be a guard and Lohner was one-on-one in the paint with a much smaller defender and our guards didn't look to get him the ball.

Here's hoping that Lucas can be a facilitator and see the floor and reward teammates for doing the right thing and moving w/o the ball. If we get that kind of movement going like we had in 2019, it forces defenses to back off and protect the paint more which then opens up the perimeter for open shots.
