Naming Rights
We recently got a couple of sheep. I typically think that it is cute to see the names that the younger ones create. So, as I was picking up the sheep, I told my four-year-old that he could name the sheep. I got out, went to get the sheep, and returned after getting the sheep ready for traveling. The kid, who likes rhyming, proudly said we should name the sheep: “Buck and [some word that rhymes].”

Yeah, his naming rights were rescinded, but not before the teenagers recorded him and emailed it out to all their friends.

It reminds me of when I was a kid and my sister named our dog Puck (from Midsummer’s Night Dream). This dog would always get out and jump on kids playing on the playground in the neighboring lot. Whenever this would happen, my mother would run out after the dog, yelling “puck off, puck off.”
