I used to get chewed out for not closing my eyes.
In fact my dad once caught me with my eyes open and asked in a disapproving tone "Don't you believe in prayer?".
I was about 14 or 15 and angry at the time, so of course I didn't; but was I going to tell him "nope" and risk getting smacked all over the living room? Of course not.
