For years I have been on board with BYU to the AAC. Now?
We have a chance at something better. As it stood a few months ago, I would have been thrilled to join the AAC for the following reasons.

1. The AAC plays good football. UCF, Houston, Cinci, Memphis, SMU etc have all been ranked recently and have good athletes.
2. They play great basketball. Houston got to the final 4 last year. Memphis, Wichita St, Cinci etc all have been good recently.
3. KEY REASON: With the changes to the College Football Playoff there is really no argument that if the goal is to make the playoff, being Independent is a tough slate. It honestly would be the worst access to the playoff in all of college football. So joining a conference would be important, and the AAC is miles ahead of the MWC which would be our other available option.

That said, I am not dumb. As a Houston fan, I realize that ECU isn't great. They aren't. Tulsa has a good team occasionally, but they don't bring $$ or eyeballs. Same for Temple. So if the Big12 wants to help the top AAC teams ditch the lower half, that's a big deal.

If the Big12 can stick together, add BYU, and snatch the top of a good conference in the AAC, then I would be ESTATIC to join.

So for the first in a while, if you ask me today if BYU should join the AAC, my answer is a quick no. This Big12 thing would instantly be the best conference situation BYU has ever been in.
