So football is more important to you than her and her family.
But this is the way a lot of people choose to interpret stuff like that. My wife has used it in other situations (typically only at a certain time).
I love watching football with my FIL, but don’t ever want to accept an invite to do it at their house, because even if they’ve invited us over specifically to watch a game, you still can’t really watch the game.
All the ladies are doing and talking about something else and want you to be connected to that. Also will be so loud (frequently playing music) you can’t hear the call and if you have the volume loud enough to hear they’ll want it turned down to not impede their conversation.
There’s a difference between watching the game and having the game on in the background of a party.
