Will there be a backlash on salary levels or will this continue to rise above the already ridiculous levels that currently infect the industry?

With the show me the money coaching grab in my opinion you are not seeing the limited resources available which means most schools will be forced to find lesser talent. However lesser talent will demand higher salaries.

I would not be surprised if schools begin to negotiate lower salary with longer time frames vs trying to hit the homerun.
