Your logic leaves out a couple of fundamental criteria for the committee
1. All 4 CFP slots shall be awarded to P5 schools
2. 11 of 12 NY6 slots shall be awarded to P5 schools
3. Use the publicly acknowledged rules/criteria to rank the Top 4 and the Top 12, but adjust as necessary to satisfy Rules 1 and 2
BYU's only NY6 path is to join a P5 conference.
