YaHerdWithPerd 3rd String
What went wrong and some perspective.
First off, yikes. Terrible loss to an inferior opponent. Not hard to foresee a let down game as just won a couple of emotional games. We were careless with the ball and missed shot after shot. No need to dive too deep into the shooting as we all know it was terrible. As soon as Baxter went out that was bad for us both on and off the court. These guys have seen him come back time after time just to see him go down again. That must have been brutal for the team. On the court he is by far our best post defender, and dives hard to the hole after he screens that is good for 3-4 buckets a game. We don't have many people that can get their own bucket. We have 2 and all other offense relies on set pieces which is tough. One thing that really bothers me is that we play at UVU every other year. They should come to Provo, or we don't play them. That is more money for our program, and we have no other reason to play them in Orem as it isn't implausible that they got some calls because they were in their home gym. The refs absolutely sucked, and while they were not the main reason we lost, it was a factor. Last complaint is I love how coach Pope uses the transfer portal. But can we not get a shooter? They shoot worse than the average high school basketball team.

I will end on a positive note. We beat our rival, we will still be ranked around 20ish, we have a great coach, good players, and play fantastic defense. If we can start shooting even average then we will be back in the tourney. If you told me at the beginning of the season that we started 6-1 and beat Utah I would have taken that. UVU is obviously no threat to BYU, so this was just a loss to an inferior opponent, which happens. Rant over, time to eat some cereal. Goodnight.
