when I said going up to the lake, I was thinking a day at the lake picnicking or camping, not towing a boat. those roads are paved or easily driven dirt/gravel with a FWD unibody. sure if you're towing or going far afield then this isn't the vehicle for you. but you're thinking that everybody in a truck uses it like you do, which is not true in the majority of cases.
