It is in the exact spot where the sun's and earth's gravities combine to super accelerate objects in this special area called a Lagrange Point so that they orbit the sun at the same angle rate as the earth. IE, it stays the same distance from earth while staying on the far side of earth without propulsion (or without much propulsion)
