Two of the most hallowed records in a sport where records matter almost more than who wins the game were the all-time homerun record and the single season homerun record. What Bonds did to those records was a travesty that big time baseball enthusiasts hate. Yes they all treat it with an asterisk, but his name is still there.

I know many don't like to hear this, but what is happening in the NFL isn't much different than steroids in baseball. While HGH won't make you bigger, it will allow you to play much longer than those who don't take it. Have we seen players that have played a lot longer recently? A few come to mind. How did Adrian Petersen come back so quick at an age when no one did? How is Tom Brady playing 10 years longer than what QBs in previous generations did. There are many others. They have also made a mockery of their sports records with their longevity, but records in football are far less meaningful as the game adapts and changes over the years unlike baseball. Also unlike baseball their year to year numbers are based on their talent. They just rebound and revive much quicker than their counterparts.

I honestly don't care if guys like Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGwire and others are let into the Hall of Fame. Why? Because the Hall of Fame means very little to me. It is full of guys who did bad things like beat their wives, take cocaine...etc. I just know I don't have a lot of respect for them. They knowingly lied and cheated to break records and beat those who did it the right way before them. Will we ever know the extent of steroids? Probably not. Were tons of other guys in the Hall also taking them? Probably.

But the David Ortiz one is an interesting one. Generally when taking steroids to keep the edge you would need to cycle on and off. Yet he wasn't caught a single time after a rumored positive in 2003. So either the testing is bad (which I am sure it is), or he figured out how to beat it. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was the latter. But I don't know. I do know Bonds took steroids. I know Clemens took steroids. I know McGwire and Sosa did. Hard for me to put them in a pantheon of the best because of it.
