they put in the turbo 4 cylinder (I believe it is 2016) or after they took it out and went back to the flat six (2020?). Get the Cayman S or the R if it is in your budget. Car and Driver has put the Cayman (or Boxster--same car but a convertible) on its ten best list 22x since 1998. It isn't too expensive all things considered. It is not the most powerful mid engine two seater but supposedly has incredible feel.
Car and Driver said "If there's an automotive engineer active today developing anything—anything, any model, any type of vehicle—who hasn't driven a 718 [Cayman], then that person doesn't really understand what good is."
For me personally, I have only driven sort of entry-level luxury brands (Audi A4 and Mercedes C300). I have never been able to go back until I recently bought an electric. The electric is every bit as much fun as the entry-level luxury brands.
FWIW I also agree with those who suggested you pick up a C8 Corvette. Couldn't go wrong there. Everyone I know who has driven it says that is an absolutely astounding car. The performance is in the same general area as McLaren/Porsche/Audi R8 with a price tag literally 1/2 and (depending on which trim level of the supercars) could be 1/3.
