A ton of people in my neighborhood are having problems with their microwave

tripping either their breakers or GFCIs. IIRC, the problem is with the switches that turn the microwave off if the door is opened. The switches go bad and the microwave starts causing these problems.

Could be a bad GFCI. They are easy enough to replace.

That was my thought and I would have started here (I just replaced one). But

Plug the microwave into a different GFCI circuit to see if it trips there too
