schedules that BYU has to take the games when they can get them. Definitely unfortunate for BYU to have their own bye Nov. 5th the week before playing Utah Tech, so that it is somewhat like a 2 week bye for them.

I count 4 opponents who have an unusually easy game or bye the week before playing BYU - Baylor, Oregon, ND, and Liberty.

For baylor, it might actually be to Baylor's detriment. Baylor opens week 1 with an FCS team, but BYU opens week 1 with USF. So BYU will be more battle tested going into that week 2 matchup. I'd actually prefer BYU's position there.

Oregon goes Georgia, FCS, BYU to start the season. Definitely smart of them to split up their 2 tough non-conference games and put the FCS game between them. But its still early in the season (week 3), so that advantage for Oregon of getting a "rest" week 2 will not be huge.

ND is bye before BYU. But BYU has a Thursday USU game before ND. So BYU gets 2 days of extra rest after USU on Th Sept 29 before playing ND on 8 Oct the following Saturday. Not a huge advantage for ND there.

Liberty is where it could be a bigger advantage. This is now week 8 and BYU has gone through its crucible - played all of its toughest games and had ND and Arkansas on back to back weeks. Liberty gets FCS the week before. Liberty will primed up for upset here. But if BYU can't beat Liberty on the road (even if they have an easier game the week before), I am not sure that BYU is top 15 material.

Wyoming, USU, Arkansas, ECU, BSU, Utah Tech, and Cal are all playing what for them are usual opponents - mostly conference opponents. The G5 teams play few P5 games as is, so its not like they are doing special maneuvering because of BYU. That is just how their schedule is. Counting BYU as a P5 team (for now), if a G5 team plays 1 or 2 P5 teams in a season of course that game would be intermixed amongst their other G5 games.
