So the 2022 World Cup will take place entirely within Qatar, a country smaller
than all but two of the 50 states, but the 2026 World Cup can’t even be contained within the whole of the United States and has to also be in Canada and Mexico?

There was a belief the US wouldn't win the bid alone, and word is that FIFA will prefer joint-nation bids going forward.
