People use caulk way to much. Fill anything on the flat with DAP or a wood
Filler that can be sanded. Seams will disappear. Caulk the long edges where the molding leaves a small gap against a wall, floor or ceiling
Of course it could be like my house in GA where they didn’t caulk anything and all the corner joints are open
