The best defenses in CFB do two things: (1) stop the run; (2) pressure the QB
you can't do either if your game plan calls for rushing 3 a lot.

What frustrates me the most is seeing us play the first two weeks on defense, where it appeared we made a concerted effort to stop the run first, and then we throw that all away when we play Oregon. Why?

No matter the style of offense, if you stop the run first, you will have success. When you stop the run, you create more obvious passing downs, so you can then pressure the QB.
