Pet peeve from losing players: "They were more fired up than us."
In reality, this is usually the case:
a. the other team was physically better than you.
b. the other team was mentally better than you.
If you're a college football player who can't get fired up to play in front of 65k fans on ESPN then you shouldn't be suiting up. Focus on your engineering degree. Using that as an excuse is an attempt to save face, but for me it has the opposite effect.
