USMCdad Intervention Needed
My wife hosted a family movie night tonight for hocus pocus 2
Just for introduction, I had never watched the first one until I met my wife about 5 years ago and she mentioned she loved the movie. We were already too far into dating for me to have this be a red flag to kill it because I figured it was just a dumb Disney movie and no big deal. I also had 3 boys so we never watched stuff like this when they were younger and I think when the original one came out I was on a mission so must have missed that epic theater release.

But anyway, I put up with her Disney love and Halloween love which includes Hocus Pocus and a perk is she has the dress for the witch that she wore as a Halloween costume and I wore a zombie thing I guess is billy, but when she wears the dress it highlights certain assets she has so it’s not all bad. Well tonight she made her famous white chili and cornbread (I called it white trash chili one time, big mistake so now I pretend to like it) and invited all 7 of our kids who live in Arizona over to watch it, and yes she wore the dress.

My twins both opted out, smart. As did one of their wife’s but my other daughter in law came as she is a a fan. Our other adult daughter and her husband came and the four younger kids had to come because they live with us, but I was proud of our 17 year old son when he ate dinner and said he was heading out to watch the Friday night football game at his school.

Well because we were a few kids down my wife decided to invite her parents and her brother and his kids. So as we are getting ready to eat and watch the movie I notice her dad isn’t here yet and my MIL informs me he doesn’t want to watch a movie about witches for religious reasons. I tell her oh, well next time I should use that excuse. Then my brother in law and his kids are finally here so we start the movie.

About half way in, my brother in law after making multiple references to the Illuminati symbols and other secret society type stuff related to the government or whatever declares he has had enough and is leaving because he can’t watch this liberal garbage anymore. I’m laughing because I honestly think he’s joking and that he just thinks the movie is dumb and would rather be doing something else than eating with us and watching a movie. But turns out, he’s dead serious that having a 10 second clip of men in a costume contest dressed as the three witches followed by witches glancing in a window while two men watch a movie on a couch together, is too liberal for him and his kids, oh and the all seeing eye (I better remind him not to go to the temple anymore)

I’ll be honest, I’m glad they left, I like him but his kids drive me crazy, but I assumed people who watch Halloween movies like this know that there might be witchcraft references or even that when you have the lead actors in this dressed at witches the best homage to them is to have men dressed up like them as all three of them have always had that type of persona in this movie, and I found it funny that men would be dressing up like them. I could even see a parent not wanting their kids to watch sex or same sex situations, but that 2 second clip was not sexual at all, it was Disney meeting their quota for including all in their movie but in a very no sexual or I would argue harmless way. But to see their reaction to this movie and then see a few others on CB I’m a little stunned. Not that people don’t like the movie, that’s expected, but that people are that upset about witch stuff and drag stuff to get that upset. I get being upset you didn’t think of a better excuse to not even watch the movie, but to actually watch it and then get upset at that stuff is just odd to me. It’s a dumb movie, meant for kids and those of us with wife’s who have bad taste in movies, but not something to get your political feathers ruffled with.

My review of the movie, I give it 2.5 out of 5. It’s better than the first one, but what movie isn’t, but if you don’t watch it with people who get offended during it and make it known and storm out it’s probably like a a 1 star, but the added drama and humor of seeing adults upset at some content in a Disney movie doubles my rating. I would watch this again only with other in-laws or similarly minded people who would be outraged and walk out of my family room while my wife shushes them because she is trying to hear all of the dialog and doesn’t want to have to rewind it. Without that entertainment adder save yourself some time and fake a headache and go to bed unless your wife wears the dress then watch it with her and admire her, um yeah just admire her.
