he has had to do for his life with poor OL play, but his clock is so jacked up that even when he has good protection he refuses to step up in the pocket, step into throws, etc.
Guys like Geno Smith, Marcus Mariota, and a few others struggled as youngsters in the league and are now at least average QBs or better as a result of having sat, waited, and something likely finally clicked for them.
Zach may end up panning out the same way, or maybe not.
He has 4 TDs and 5 INTs in 7 games this year. The coaches obviously asked him to limit turnovers relative to last year, and he definitely has, but at some point he needs to lead the team to a couple of TD drives and FGs by actually making a few plays of his own, and he isn't doing that.
Yes, his OL sucks. Yes, his WRs drop occasional passes, but he also misses VERY wide open guys or throws a blatantly horrible throw a few times per game. That isn't normal.
I hope it clicks for him sooner than later, but his leash cannot be that long anymore. He may need an opportunity elsewhere after sitting a couple of years for his next shot.
No one can deny the talent he has- both his arm and his legs. His issues are 100% in his head.
