Sure it helped me develop thick skin, but no one deserved to have to deal with what I had to deal with. It was constant from multiple people. It did have a huge effect on me. One day in 7th grade I had decided that enough was enough. The school "cool kid" and bully was pushing me and harassing me at the end of PE class one day. My dad had made the deal that I give them 2 warnings, and then I do whatever it takes to finish it.
I warned him. He didn't stop. So I went berserk. I tackled him to the ground and gave the young man his comeuppance. Got some really good punches in on him and beat the snot out of him. After a few seconds he got up and ran away as the whole class sat there in shock. The PE teacher called me into his office and said, "Thank you, I hate that kid. I'm supposed to send you to the office and get you suspended for fighting, but because I don't like him you're free to go," and he gave me a fist bump on the way out.
No one ever said another hurtful or harassing thing to me throughout Jr. High and High school. I've always been known as the mellow, laid back guy. But everyone else learned that day that you do NOT poke the bear.
