We are on the precipice of seeing a doomsday scenario for the Pac 12 that could leave a lot of good quality schools behind.

Amazon didn’t want the full slate of P12 games. They wanted 11 FB games(1st choice) including conf champ game, and 18 BBall, offered $100m a year for 4 years. The scraps left would not net them the $150m yearly from another network they’d need to match the original ESPN offer

4 PAC schools plus Kliavkoff pushed for the conference to take the ESPN money and the other 6 schools refused. It got nasty from what I’ve been told.

Here’s the conundrum: maximum value for B12 is 6 of the PAC schools. Every scenario has been exhaustively studied and after adding 6 of the 10 any further additions dilute the money per school.

If B12 adds the right 6 PAC schools it can see its yearly payouts go above that $35m per school number the way the current deal is structured. Because those 6 schools are worth appx $200m per year as a block

But when you factor in possible matchups, multiple time zones, and other data there’s a strong belief from media consultants that the 6 PAC schools joining B12 could see their collective value closer to the full $250m yearly that ESPN was willing to pay all 10 in a vacuum
