Slovis went to Pitt to play for OC Mark Whipple who left after he signed . . . .
The new OC and the head coach wanted to play more of a ball control, ground and pound style of offense. Pitt's #1 receiver, Jordan Addison (now a projected NFL 1st round pick) was bribed away by USC with a $3.5M NIL deal. Slovis then got hurt in the second game (OT loss to Tennessee) and wasn't quite right for several weeks. Pitt's line also wasn't very good. They ran the ball a lot!

At BYU he has an established OC and an established offense that is very QB friendly. BYU's O-line has consistently graded out very well in pass protection per PFF. BYU also has a good run game, which sets up play action and the pass.

At USC Slovis didn't have much of a run game, so he was forced to throw it a lot. USC's O-line wasn't the best either. His coach got fired early in his 3rd season. He also battled shoulder injuries during his 2nd season that required minor surgery.

If he can stay healthy and BYU can block for him, things should be great! One limitation that Jaren Hall has is he doesn't see the middle very well. We saw the tight ends, who primarily work the middle, really drop off in targets/catches from Zach Wilson's days. I fully expect Issac Rex to really benefit from the change in QB and by having the plates removed from his ankle.
