him aloof, racist, lazy and he played for the Lakers. Mostly the latter although I remember reading his books Giant Steps and disliking him even more afterwards.

In the last 20 years, I've come to admire his intelligence, thoughtfulness and he's had some great takes on America and many social issues. He is really an amazingly gifted writer who can see both sides of an issue and persuasively write an opinion.
