The concern is that Gonzaga will nosedive back to obscurity once Mark Few (60 years old) retires. This is exactly what happened to Wichita State when Gregg Marshall was forced out.
I get that Spokane supports Gonzaga because they have nothing else going on there. But it is sort of a far off island in the Big12 for program that seems built on its current head coach. They were never this successful before Mark Few, and don't have Football to rely on.
Maybe if they were regionally close to the BIG12 footprint it would make more sense.
And if adding a basketball school like Gonzaga to a national conference is so appealing, and travel is not an issue, then why hasn't the Big East come calling to them?
