There was a group of dogs playing off leash when a lab mix and a pit bull got overly aggressive with my golden and overpowered him. He rolled onto his back in a submissive posture and bared his teeth when they kept at him. The lab mix got the hint and backed off (his owner was also yelling at him at the time), but the pit bull went for my dog's throat. Fortunately, my dog had his control chain still on and the other dog got a mouthful of that, and one of the links cut his mouth.

The woman blamed my dog, saying my dog had bared his teeth, and the pit bull took that as a threat. Yeah, while lying on his back and the other two dogs going at him. I was just trying to get my dog out of there at that point, because she was having a hard time controlling the pit bull, and the other dog owners who'd been there were rapidly getting their own dogs back onto their leashes, not wanting any part of the scene.

Stupid pit bulls. Why are they even legal? And there are so many out there. Seems like every year more of them.
