The fact that they won their first extra inning game in game 159 tells you all you need to know. I think Preller is fine although having 6 managers in 10 years is a problem. Sounds like Melvin is out the door as well. I do think Melvin was a good part of the problem though. He’s on old school American League guy that plays for a 5 run home run. They need a manager that is not so laid back and will temper egos and emphasize some small ball. The pitching won’t be as solid next year with Snell likely moving on but there’s still some great arms in the rotation. What’s really puzzling is their run differential… it’s actually really good but shows how inconsistent this team is. It was a bizarre year. Pretty crazy they they’re not quite mathematically eliminated yet.
