He may very well be a poor recruiter. But when G5 Utah St has more staff member
and resources pooled towards recruiting than BYU does...it is going to be hard to recruit well.
It's a top down, institutional problem. BYU has always used the "less is more" approach, and been extremely stingy w/ spending $$$ on athletic programs.
It's the same reason why you see 4 inch chunks of turf flying around at home games at LES. When the field's useful life is extended 6-7 years in the name of "saving money"... it isn't surprising that BYU hasn't recruited well. The institution itself is not financially committed to football success.
