his experience at BYU. I followed his coaching staff because they had been thoroughly BYU men. I was earnestly interested in their success. Their future success would reflect directly on BYU with regards to whether we had had a good coach or not. To do this, they would now need to transfer their ability to a different environment. I believe that was achieved.
I'm probably would describe my feelings about Pope as "jilted"--and I imagine many others feel the same way and are surprised. We didn't expect this scenario. IMHO his departure has lacked some dignity. Once again, the BYU part of me wants to see him be successful in order to show the world that we did have a good coach. The other part is indifferent and while I know I'll scan the sports scores to see how his team has performed, he's like I would imagine some individuals who are divorced feel about their ex.
