Reading the Olympic bid and came across interesting tidbit. City of Salt Lake is
proposing some major changes and also part of the Revitalization legislation that was just passed. Included is an idea with a bit of controversy.

Do you remember the rioting, gnashing of teeth, and clash of church vs state back in the day when church proposed closing main street between Temple and church office building?

Well, here is the concept the city, state, and revitalization plan includes:

During an International Olympic Committee delegation visit last week — Salt Lake City is the presumptive host of the 2034 Winter Games — Mendenhall pitched projects aimed at attracting more families downtown including “a pedestrianization of this Main Street corridor” that would include a 100 South connection to the Salt Palace Convention Center, “a green loop that encircles this downtown core” to give children a place to play, and bringing technology companies closer to the University of Utah.

Will we see all the ambitious 'save the street' people come out of the woodwork again?
