Where you can coach up or find something from the FCS level kids or the just undersized kids... the idea is that they are good enough, they just need that extra bit of coaching... idea. Meanwhile, he literally had a kid that had all the numbers and tangibles he wanted in a QB... ignored it... that kid goes to Texas Tech, and Arod is over here picking up random rocks and hoping it's the diamond... the one. We have 10 QBs on the roster heading into summer, assuming nobody leaves; we almost had 12... that's insane. He's just picking up kids and hoping it's that diamond and it's just not.
Between ARod and Kalani's recruiting right now, it's kind of a mess. I get the feeling that either they don't know how to recruit, and this is their way of doing it, or both of them have such a low opinion of BYU that they believe they can't get the big recruit to come to BYU. They are hoping to get lucky with an overlooked player who would jump at a BYU offer. Neither case is a good strategy at all.
