First, I’m surprised there’s fewer than 3000 subscribers for this YT channel, perhaps because they are lengthy. This one is almost an hour. However, they are very professional produced and segmented so you can usually find what you’re interested in. But some of the insights are incredible.
This was a great interview for many reasons, especially the Royal Blue Collective discussion and why it’s different from almost every other university (starts around 22:00).
Plus, my favorite part was getting to know Trevin’s wife Tatum. He’s a very lucky man!
The game changer moment for me is what Trevin said about NIL. Note: my transcription may not be perfect.
Trevin said, "BYU got a lot of hate the last couple of years in terms of NIL [because] we weren't competing with the best of the best. But all of the sudden this year we are there. A lot of recruits need to understand that. The Royal Blue Collective is legit and it's going to continue to grow. I know a lot of people and partnerships, people that want to spend money, are realizing that if we want to be really competitive in today's game you gotta break bread [hint from B-Lo].
He mentioned some other collectives as well.
I didn’t expect this! This “should” change a lot of negative discussions on CB concerning NIL. Note: this isn’t the Church doing NIL. This is likely the 9+💰figure members who attended BYU who want to see a great product on the court, field, etc. We should be very grateful to them with what I believe will now happen with BYU sports from here on out, assuming the expected NCAA settlement doesn’t blow it up, which may actually be good better than the current environment of college athletics.
Enjoy! Again, NIL starts around 22:00 minutes.
