Think about it:
IF you were a high performer at your job...
AND you knew you were getting paid lower than market value...
AND there were other companies out there willing to pay you more...
Wouldn't you test the waters? Wouldn't you tell your boss you're looking?
Heck, maybe you wouldn't even tell your boss. Maybe you'd just jet. So maybe what these college athletes are doing is BETTER than what we might do in the corporate world.
Kody Epps, Lauren Gustin, Richie Saunders, and Dallin Hall did it. They all sent that signal, and they all came back with a better deal. Why wouldn't Noah do the same? Why wouldn't anyone do the same?
I get it: We want kids to make four-year commitments and honor those commitments. In that sense, this current era of college sports sucks big time. But right now we're in the wild west. There are no contracts, and there are no rules. That might not always be the case, but while it is, these kids are making hay while the sun shines. They are keenly attuned to their market value, and they're getting theirs.
Can't blame 'em. Any of us would do the same.
