When BYU is good, they should. Presuming a team is actually mediocre.
Frankly, we don't really know yet how "good" this BYU team is and you certainly don't know how "mediocre" a top 10 team from last year is going to be. Good is good. Teams are like stocks...past performance is no guarantee of future results...and least not for the smart stock pickers.

It's like letting your IBM stock ride through the dynamic changes of the tech boom. Big Blue is certainly better than some weird company named Google, right? Well...apparently not.

2014 is 2014. Not a single play from any previous season means a thing. All that matters this year is how good this BYU team is on the particular Saturday they play this UCF team. Reputation doesn't win games. Players do. But if you do want to look at BYU from a historical perspective...we're not good enough to look down on an upstart like UCF that is in a recruiting hot bed, has beautiful weather, has demonstrated the ability to put players into the NFL...they may not have BYU's tradition...but in the most recent comparison they were clearly better. I think we have improved...and I think the loss of Bortles and their starting RB will hurt...but I'm not prepared to say they are mediocre...and I'm certainly not prepared to say BYU has some noble right to victory on the road in Florida against a team that was a couple of bounces away from being undefeated last year.
