I was pretty pessimistic after KC's ACL, given the family history. But after the April Fools announcement of Carlino's transfer, KC has been all business and greatly energized.
BYU has been held down for 3 years, imo, due to poor leadership at PG.
Doolin is good and is cause for optimism at UNLV. I'm just not sure Rice is a capable enough coach to maximize the potential there. He has done a poor job to this point, i think. He has let that whole team jerk him around the last couple of years.
We'll see if he can get it done this season. i am a skeptic but, like you regarding BYU's remarkable summer transformation, i am not close enough to be confident that i know what is going on at UNLV BB.
If KC makes it back 100% early, i am very confident in BYU's impending big time upside surprise.
The one comment with which i disagree: Haws, while he will still be a 20 pt+ a game man, will be relied on less than in the past two years...because BYU is so incredibly deep. It would hurt if the team didn't have Haws, but nothing like prior years. He is a good one though, no question.
But you are right, have to have a good man at PG, it can't be makeshift, and the drop off after KC is too big to fail. With KC healthy, few teams in the nation will be able to play at BYU's level. None will be more than a sliver better. You'll be surprised, i'm sure.
