"one of the strongest and most complete teams in BYU history"?? Do you?
I mean, I'm all for being optimistic and I think this team could be pretty good, but come on...
I still have some doubts about this team:
How we're going to replace Carlino's and Mika's production.
I can't for the life of me understand how people are so unrealistically high about a walk-on who had zero scholarship offers coming out of high school (Kaufusi). I know he grew on his mission, but let's keep our expectations for him in check. It's not fair to expect him to be even a fraction of what at top-50 recruit in Mika was as a freshman.
Carlino, although far from perfect, had offensive and defensive skills that will simply be very difficult to replace, especially if we're counting on true freshmen to fill his role.
I know Kyle says the recovery is going great (what player doesn't say this), but the fact of the matter is ACL surgeries usually take about a full year for 100% recovery. Not saying he won't be back playing by the opener, but I highly doubt we'll see the same explosion and quickness out of KC that we saw last year.
Once again, I'm not trying to be a debbie downer or anything, but I think we as fans need to keep expectations in check. I think we could have a solid year and be about as good as we were last year (maybe slightly better if things fall our way?). I think it's a bit much to expect this to be one of the strongest and most complete teams in Dave Rose's tenure, let alone in BYU history.
