I don't think it is the main mission of BYU to educate lower class and make them
Elite. Rather educate those that are wanting a spiritual enviro and live the Gospel. IE, lots of LDS folk are "middle class" (they kind of have to be to support that many children) and they are probably not as likely to break into the "elite" class since many times the wife doesn't work, we get married younger, go on missions, etc... (which makes it a little harder to go to as many years of graduate school or do internships in far away areas). The more I think about it, there are probably a lot of other reasons.
