I'm mostly a lurker on this board, but I just have step out of anonymity long enough to say this is the best post I've read in a long time. I totally agree with everything you said.
I'm a U grad; both undergrad and post. But I grew up in Provo as a staunch BYU fan. Dick Nemelka/Jeff Congdon/Virgil Carter were my heroes. When my family moved to SLC in my teens I ended up at the U for financial reasons.
While I think the U is a great university, I never quit being a BYU fan and I think much of the reason for that is that as I grew older I wanted a team that also represented my values. Not that there aren't a lot of great people at the University of Utah and on the U's teams, but as a whole, it's just not the same.
I know that during Lavell's years a few guys ignored the honor code behind the scenes. It got completely out of control under Gary Crowton, but I feel that under Bronco's watch the team's character both on and off the field is going to matter more than ever before. That really matters to me.
It is indeed a great time to be a Cougar fan!
