There are very few true "dives" in the read option.
Ultimately the primary gap for the RB puts the QB optioning to the inside or outside of that. If the RB hole is in the middle, Hill reads the defensive reaction and either gives or keeps and goes outside. On the contrary if the primary option is to the outside for the RB, Hill will ride the handoff and either release with the right read or keep and turn inside himself. If we keep the read option, which we will...and if you want Williams primary gap to be on the outside, by extrapolation you are asking Hill to be prepared to turn inside more often. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just pointing out that things don't happen in a vacuum.

I think the right answer in terms of JSwag is to keep the running game close to it was, but get him more involved as a safety valve in the passing game. First priority will always be to protect Hill and as such, he has to be able to pick up the blitz, but when there is no blitz, I think he can be very dangerous over the middle or on a swing.

The read option is the read option. There is only so much you can do if you want to keep it and reduce risk to Hill or JSwag. However, if we can throw more effectively, that will reduce the number of read option reps naturally, then it will truly serve it's purpose as a means to keep the defense off balance an on its heals. But we won't reach the promised ground if we play too scared. Hill needs to be smart about when he takes hits, and we saw a lot of smarts develop by the end of the year. But sometimes that first down or the end zone is worth the hit and we will need him to take it. Conversely, a ship is safest in harbor, but that is not why ships are built. JSwag may be safest if we keep him out of the middle, but if he's our primary running back, he has to be a threat anywhere on the field.
