The only way to duplicate what BYU did in the late 70's and early 80's in to be on the cutting edge of an innovation.
Even with that innovation being led by not just average NFL QB talent, but guys that would have long careers and win the Super Bowl, BYU still lost games more often than not to good Power teams.
BYU is a great football program in a sparsely populated area of the country with unique recruiting challenges.
That's what BYU IS. There is no coach who is going to change that.
These days I don't think BYU would have 10-ish years alone with such an innovation given how quickly things are copied in Football these days.
