With the exception of a couple defenses we faced, he coulda easily set himself up for long balls if he coulda consistently delivered them.
At least that's how I see it. The OL containment was certainly better than the year before, but with the exception of Michigan, Mangum had no problem hurting teams long -- & he did it without having a deep receiver anywhere near as dangerous as Trinnaman or Kurtz. (Despite his height & speed--we all know Matthews was terrible at the fly route, & Houk wasn't near fast enough to run it.)
