I feel like there is this hesitant excitement among the fan base and reserved praise within the media. We all feel like great things are brewing in the football program, and we are awaiting the validation. I also think it is quite possible that many recruits are in a wait and see mode with the new coaching staff, Tanner Mckey being one of them. Really, I can't blame recruits or their parents for wanting to see results, the coaching staff can make or break a career. That being said, this year the honey moon/mulligan period is mostly over and recruits, fans, and press will start forming opinions, which seems unfair to snap judgment after just 2 years, but that will be the reality of the situation IMHO.
I'm not terribly worried about the D, with Sitake in town the D will likely be top notch, and thanks be to Bronco for culturing a strong defensive mindset at BYU. The offense on the other hand, we all know that one of the most beloved cougars of all time was hired to lead our offense with a resume that is rather meager or at least unorthodox. We have faith in Ty being a football prodigy and trust that his 14 years in the NFL as a backup QB and his high school coaching job as his credentials qualify him. However, unlike religion, in football it isn't a sin to demand a little proof of principle via tangible data. For cougar nation's sake lets hope that all the pieces to the puzzle are here for Ty and the 2017 season. No one wants the inexperienced narrative to start and no one wants another Brandon Doman situation to eventually develop with our Heisman trophy winner. While I realize that it is a bit unrealistic to hope for a top 20 season, the earlier the better when it comes to proving the current inexperience.
